It
is important to thoroughly investigate and properly identify the causes of
dampness before commencing remedial works of any kind.
Rudders & Paynes
surveyors will always take all necessary steps to ascertain such causes during
the course of their survey.
Chemical
injection damp coursing is the most successful, convenient and cost effective
way of installing a damp-proof course where an existing has broken down or none
exists. In simple terms, the result of this operation is the formation of a
water repellent, silicone based layer through the wall. This layer will chemically
bond to the masonry and cannot leach out, thus providing a long-term barrier
against rising damp.
As with all remedial damp proof course systems the adequate removal and replacement
of salt contaminated plaster is an essential requirement.
Plaster should be replaced in strict accordance to our relevant re-plastering
specification.
Rudders
& Paynes surveyors invariably find the cause of the dampness problem during
the initial survey. However, there are occasions when findings cannot be regarded
as entirely conclusive. If any doubt exists, or if observations and meter readings
are giving conflicting information, our surveyors may suggest further measures
be taken to fully identify the cause of the problem. This may result in their
recommending Calcium Carbide meter tests being carried out. Being fully qualified
they are able to do this themselves, thus negating the need and additional expense
of calling on the services of outside expertise.
Following
our survey we will provide a typewritten report giving details of our findings,
the correct recommendations necessary to solve the problem and where applicable,
our quotation for remedial works.
